Valencia High School

Elementary Schools | Middle Schools | High Schools | Specialized Educational & Administrative Facilities | K-12 Trends

Los Lunas Schools’ vision for this second high school was to integrate technical career instruction and college preparatory courses in a single, innovative academy-based curriculum. The facility design accommodates pre-engineering, electronics, culinary, cosmetology and advanced auto lab programs.  An additional practical need was to phase construction and maintain an operational school throughout each phase.

Adaptability was an important feature of the multi-building design, such as organizing classroom spaces adjacent to the science and arts academies that could serve either use as well as providing multi-purpose classrooms with movable partitions to allow for varied group sizes and teaching methods throughout the school.  Exterior courtyards reduce congested areas and function as informal gathering spaces and outdoor classrooms as required.  The site design optimizes safety and flow of vehicular traffic while providing for future building expansion.

With 166,168 square-foot of buildings the campus was designed for 1,300 students.
