This was your prototypical modern elementary school in 1959, but in 2008, it is only modern by its austere clean lines on the exterior that are typical of buildings of that era. In the security conscious age of post September 11, districts are being very selective of who is coming into their schools and administration offices. When the entrance is located in the middle of the school, it is difficult to watch the front door.

A new addition not only helps distinguish itself as the main entrance, it provides the security wanted in today’s schools. All of this is accomplished without affecting the original aesthetics of the school. The existing offices were remodeled into a Diagnostician Office, Bookroom, and Teachers’ Lounge and Workroom; space that was not included in the original 1959 vision.
