Public involvement process begins for historic Bridge Blvd./Rt. 66 beautification project

Bridge Boulevard is one of Albuquerque’s most historic river crossings. As recently seen on KOB Eyewitness News 4, County Commissioner Art De La Cruz has initiated a planning project in an effort to beautify approximately one mile of historic Bridge Boulevard and improve pedestrian safety along the corridor between the Rio Grande and Goff Boulevard.  Historically, Bridge Boulevard was part of the Camino Real and Route 66. Today this road serves as the gateway to Albuquerque’s South Valley and carries over 25,000 vehicles per day.

Dekker/Perich/Sabatini is developing components of a design overlay zone for the Bridge Boulevard corridor.  Public involvement in the process has already started with a well attended public meeting held at the South Valley Economic Development Center on April 22, 2010.  The overall objective of the design overlay is to identify improvements that will spur economic development in the area and result in more retail options and services geared to the surrounding neighborhoods.
