Nex-Gen Academy (New Tech High School)
Elementary Schools | Middle Schools | High Schools | Specialized Educational & Administrative Facilities | K-12 Trends
This innovative school is based upon the New Tech Foundation’s 21st century learning model which combines small school principles with collaborative, project-based learning exercises that emphasize technology as an essential tool for learning. With web-based curriculums seen as the next generation of information delivery for schools and digital proficiency needed as a 21st century skill, all learning and support spaces within this facility are outfitted with infrastructure to support today’s technological needs for digital media, distance learning, and wireless connectivity.
The design response to this curriculum is an open studio environment that fosters transparency in the learning and teaching process, facilitating cooperation and cross-pollination between the teaching and learning modules. Smaller breakout spaces provide opportunities for small group learning. Furnishings were selected for mobility and ease of reconfiguration, including smart boards with projector arms and vertical elements that act as dividers and pin-up space. A cyber café provides casual work areas for small and large groups and a stage for presentations and performance.
The 46,894 square-foot building is designed for 400 students and is part of a larger, multi-phased campus re-development. This project is designed to achieve the U.S.Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED for Schools Silver certification.
