Laguna Presbyterian Church

This Spanish Revival church was built in 1927 with a Chancel addition completed in 1948 and minor remodeling during the 1970s-80s. A complete renovation was required for structural-seismic upgrades, waterproofing corrections, and modernization of all the lighting and mechanical systems. Dekker/Perich/Sabatini was hired for Interior Design services at this historic church.

The primary goal of the renovation was to return to the splendor of the original Spanish Revival style, enlarge the Chancel for music and worship and to create a lasting construction for the coming decades. The design reflects the centrality of Table, Word and Font that is surrounded by the choir, music ministry and congregation. The interior design flowed from a respect for the Spanish Revival aesthetic while embracing a renewal to Chancel and Nave that brought Table, Word and Font closer to and more engaged with the congregation. Darker wood and iron furniture in the Chancel were offset by use of Jerusalem limestone flooring. The barrel vaulted ceiling was treated with acoustical absorptive material to support a Variable Acoustic Room System (VARS) sound system that was installed for music and voice. Custom designed furniture reflects the historic traits of previous precedent setting architecture.
